Description
3 antimony sulfide, antimony trisulfide, antimony.

Molecular weight 339.7. Dark grey crystalline substance with metallic luster. Amorphous modification has an orange color.
In water and organic solvents not dissolves. Dissolves in alkali metal sulfides, concentrated hydrochloric acid and alkalis. Decomposed by hot water with liberation of toxic products, therefore, the wet compositions with trisulfide of antimony cannot be dried at elevated temperature.
T of melting 548°C. when heated in air above 176°C slowly begins to turn into antimony oxide. At temperatures above 380°C becomes noticeably volatile and can be distilled almost without decomposition.
Density 4,635 g / cm3. Heat of formation -182.1 kJ / mol. Melting heat 233 kJ / kg. heat Capacity at 300K 347 j/(kg·K), thermal conductivity 0.59 W / (m·K).
With chlorates and perchlorates forms a mixture very sensitive to mechanical stress.
Toxic. Irritate the skin. When burned, it forms a poisonous antimony oxide. MPC 1мг/м3.

Usage
The main use of antimony sulfide is the production of friction materials, such as brake pads.
Also used to produce semiconductor materials.
Antimony sulfide in pyrotechnics is used primarily in glitters, as well as grater, percussion, low-gas, and in some spark-forming white-fire compositions as fuel. Flame gives a pale green tint.
