Classes of danger of pyrotechnics

27 / 01 / 2018

All pyrotechnic products are divided into five classes according to the degree of potential danger. Consider the characteristics of each class, taking into account the radius of the dangerous launch zone, the presence of a shock wave and explosive fragments, as well as recommendations for use.

The first class includes pyrotechnic products absolutely safe to run by civilians. These products do not have a shock wave, do not explode into fragments during the explosion, and the radius of the danger zone is less than half a meter. These products include Bengal lights, crackers, table fountains and Roman candles for cakes. The advantage of such products is that they can be used even at home without leaving the street, and in children’s presence, they can be given to children.

The second class has similar characteristics to the first, only the radius of the danger zone can reach 5 meters. Such pyrotechnic products include firecrackers, pneumatic crackers, fountains, wheels and ground fireworks. The peculiarity of products of the second class is that they can be used in closed premises provided there is sufficient space and an air conditioning system, for example, in banquet or concert halls. Also, such products are great for celebrations in country houses or open green areas.

In pyrotechnic products of the third class, the radius of the danger zone increases to 20 meters. It can be festival balls, as well as high-altitude rockets and salute batteries. In the third class, salutes of domestic use come to an end, which can be bought at the fireworks store for civilians. For the next two classes of professional use when buying, you must have a special license, and for their launch – a certificate of passed training in handling such dangerous pyrotechnic products.

The fourth hazard class is characterized by such dangerous moments as the presence of a shock wave and flying explosive particles on the sides, which can lead to the damage of nearby spectators. Such professional high-altitude fireworks, taking off to a height of more than 20 meters, can set, prepare for launch and blast only a team of specialists. Such salute batteries of high power and with a considerable amount of charges are usually used for large-scale concerts at a stadium or city events on an open area.

The fifth class of danger is sometimes called pyrotechnics of special purpose, since it is used mostly only for military or special purposes.
